Book Update: November

Hey Happy Bookworms!

So, I prolonged this post so it could go up on the first! Pinch punch first of the month!
It’s finally December – yay!!

I don’t think I’m doing blogmas this year but I’ll probably have some extra Christmassy posts going up! πŸŽ„

READ:

  • The knife of never letting go by Patrick Ness β€’ Amazon

So, my neighbour lent this to me and it was interesting because I’d never have picked it up otherwise. It was a really interesting concept with the noise and people being able to hear other people’s thoughts, toying with the idea of privacy. And the characters were pretty good, especially Manchee (*sob*).  It’s a very long book and, even though Ness manages the reader’s attention well, it is hard to read it in only a couple of sittings. The book is based around Todd and how everyone has ‘noise’ which means that nobody’s thoughts are private. Todd finds out that actually people have been hiding things from him and he has to go on a journey to get to safety and find out the truth.
The bad spelling did annoy me at first (Todd isn’t educated well so everything is spelt how it sounds)  but I got used to it, apart from one word – “twixt” WHAT IS THAT? Because of context, I think it’s ‘through’ but I really don’t know!
I wasn’t that keen on the ending and I don’t think I’ll be reading the next one but if you’re into adventure then it’s a must-read.

  • The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton β€’ Amazon

I really liked the concept. And I really wanted to like this book!
When I read the synopsis, I got kinda ‘the selection’ vibes but they’re not really that similar at all, which can be good because you don’t want to read books that are too same-y but I think this one just missed the mark a bit.
It had great descriptions, especially of the beautification but I didn’t connect with Camellia – I just couldn’t work out who she was and what she wanted. The other characters were a bit 2D too, especially Amber, like what even was her character?!

READING:

  • The restaurant at the end of the universe by Douglas Adams β€’ Amazon

I read the first one (hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy) a little while ago and this has been sitting on my real-life to-be-read pile for ages now but I’m on my Christmas purge, which is when I try to read all the books in my house that are just sitting around, waiting to be read so that I can focus on the new ones that come in at Christmas! Anyway, I’m really enjoying it, it’s a really great, funny read. (Natalie πŸ˜‰)

Thanks for reading!

I definitely wrote more than I normally do!

Do you disagree with anything I’ve said? Have you read any of these books?

Bye!
