Book Update: February (2019)

Hey Happy Bookworms!

Welcome back to *dramatic zoom* my blog!

Today we’re recapping all the books that I’ve read since my last update (Shameless self plug πŸ˜‰) I feel like I haven’t read that much but I think it’s just because I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump where I’m just feeling a bit down and not totally motivated to read (but more on that later…) Wow – I’m feeling really dramatic today!

READ:

Ok, so well I need wayyyy more self-confidence in myself since I’ve read 6 books, which is absolutely great & peachy. Anyway…here are the actual books πŸ˜‚

  • Everless by Sara Holland

This just wasn’t a great book – totally underwhelming but I read it with Sunshine and we did a lil’ collab so feel free to check that out if you’re interested.

  • Crooked kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!! Crooked Kingdom, the AMAZING sequel to six of crows! I read it and it was absolutely amazing and I love all the characters so much absdjfgufhgyie I will try to contain my excitement a little bit longer though as I’ve got an exciting post on it soon – Rhi πŸ˜‰ But feel free to scream with me in the comments!

  • Ash princess by Laura Sebastian

So this was my first re-read of the year! It’s such a good book but it wasn’t the best re-read since one of its greatest appeals are the crazy plot twists, which are kind of ruined the 2nd time round. The reading slump monster also decided to creep up on me in this one so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped 😦 but I read it mainly as a refresher so I’m still pumped for the sequel – lady smoke! Here’s my original review.

  • Three dark crowns by Kendare Blake

This was my first online buddy read! I loved sharing my thoughts with someone throughout and we both had similar opinions so it was just a really great experience! I mean…the book could’ve been better but…you can’t have everything, right? I’m planning more buddy reads for the future so if you’re interested in reading something with me, drop a comment down below!
The book itself was a bit boring, like I liked reading about Katharine, I liked the other 2 sometimes but they didn’t do a lot and for a fantasy book that promised “Three sisters. One crown. A fight to the death.”
…there wasn’t much fighting – or even just plotting going on!

  • Are we all lemmings and snowflakes? by Holly Bourne

THIS BOOK! Lately I’ve been pretty scornful of contemporary, reading what I deemed ‘more exciting books’ but when mr reading slump comes along, contemporary will save. Your. Life.
My mum got me this when she went on a business trip and I absolutely LOVED it! It’s a fantastic contemporary novel centred around teens with different mental illnesses becoming friends, accepting themselves and others, and just spreading kindness.
Such a great read with incredible characters and it had the perfect pace to keep me engaged.

  • Geekerella by Ashley Poston

So, following on from my new-found love of contemporary is Geekerella! I posted a poll on Goodreads for the best comfort-read (You know the ones that make you feel all warm and squishy inside?) and this was the winner! And it was just so cute! πŸ€—
I loved both Darien and Elle equally, which is crazy because normally in multi-narrator books, one can be boring or you just have a favourite. But I loved both of them in all their awkward cuteness! I think towards the end they got a bit rushed, trying to make it a fairy tale ending but the kinda epilogue was still super cute!
Also, this is obviously a Cinderella retelling but with nerds (such a cool idea) but, and you’re gonna think I’m so stupid, I was like 3/4 through the book before I realised it was like Cinderella πŸ˜‚ like, of course I read the title and stuff but I just kinda forgot! I even compared some of the stuff to Cinderella in my head! But yeah, that was kinda a face palm moment…

I’ve just realised that my reviews just get longer and lonnnger as you go down! πŸ˜‚

Anyway, I just want to say a huge thank you to any of my new followers because I’ve gained a lot recently and even some bigger book blogs have started following me, which is so crazy! But thanks πŸ™‚

Bye!
