Hey Happy Bookworms!
So school started 😣 I’ve been finding it really hard to balance reading, blogging & homework so bear with me. I still managed quite a lot this month though!
Let’s get straight into it! (Spoilers will all be marked)
What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
I loved Arthur. I loved Ben. I just wasn’t really feeling BenAndArthur.
I don’t know what it was but I just felt like they weren’t really working together.
I also wish the epilogue wasn’t a thing because it just didn’t work for me.
ANYWAY! I thought this was a really funny & sweet book! I loved that it dealed with family & friends & school & just life because that’s what life is. I loved Dylan, like he’s the best!
And yeah, you’ve definitely gotta read the book now though, while it’s still relevant because I’m guessing it’s not gonna age very well with all those references.
Cupid’s Match by Lauren Palphreyman
This was the first book I got approved for on netgalley 🙂
This reads exactly as a teen TV drama and actually reminded me of shadow hunters (the show, I haven’t read the book so idk).
- Very clichéd (honestly, all the clichés)
- Stupid decisions by our MC
- Forbidden love & of course there’s 2 of them (although poor Cal never got much of a look in)
- And paranormal cupids!
But it was pretty enjoyable, trashy (in a good way) pretty funny (love the sarcastic banter!) and quite a fun escape.
If you love teen drama shows then this is definitely for you.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
I don’t really know what to write because, you know, it’s HP & everyone knows what it is & have probably already decided if they’re gonna read it or not.
So…it was good 🙂
Nancy Drew: The Palace of Wisdom by Kelly Thompson and Jenn St-Onge
Thank you so much to Diamond Book Distributors for giving me a free copy of this book!
Recently I’ve discovered my love for graphic novels & although I love reading them in physical form, they expensive, so unless I can get them from the library, ebooks are the way to go!
It was a nostalgic trip with a basic whodunnit & great characters (Bess & Joe were the cutest!). Slightly aged up a bit but really enjoyable for people that watched this kinda thing as a kid!
Moth Girls by Anne Cassidy
A couple reasons I disliked this:
• completely unsatisfying ending
• like, the whole moral dilemma that Mandy faces is not properly thought out or shown (also kinda endorses withholding evidence from the police)
• SO MANY GRAMMAR MISTAKES
• When Mandy “figures out what’s happened” like HOW?! This is actually impossible. The fence was broken a couple weeks ago & was very likely fixed so for her to think this was even an option, let alone be certain – is mad.
• weird writing style
• all the texts had perfect punctuation & grammar, no teenagers speak like that!
• Mandy was really annoying
• so was Petra
• Mandy doesn’t grow as a person at all
• at the end she’s even being a Petra to her new friends? Like she’s doing to them what she hated being done to her.
So yeah, wouldn’t advise you to read this
Chasing Eden A Memoir by Cherilyn Christen Clough
Full review in this post!
The Wrong Side of Kai by Estelle Maskame
Is it just me or does this cover really remind you of the one of us is lying one, right?!
This was also my first mainstream approved book on netgalley 🙂
I didn’t realise it before but I’ve actually read another of Estelle Maskame’s books & this was by far better.
The only word to describe it really is fun! Nice pacing, a little bit awkward in places (particularly towards the end) but overall just really fun. Loveable characters that are easy to get along with, funny in a lot of places & a well told modern story. The thing that put a bit of a downer on the book was the typical guy says saying stupid that comes out wrong & girl gets crazy upset & storms off, which is just so cliched & stupid.
But apart from that – I loved it 💕
Plus the whole graduation/where they are now thing was smart, I liked that 😂
Thanks for reading!
Your opinions on these books? Have I convinced you to read any?
Sorry for the late comment- but.
YES FOR HARRY POTTAHHHHH *fangirl screams*
And yay, Becky Albertalli!! Netgalley!! (someone’s feeling like a proud momma haha since she introduced you to netgalley 😉 )

I was actually partially convinced that The Wrong Side of Kai was a fluffy thriller? You are so right – the cover looks way too similar to One of Us is Lying!

Yeah, you could say that I guess, although it’s less of a thriller & more teenagers messing each other up (like there’s no scary or mystery person element to it)
But I did really enjoy it because I guess it’s a bit more realistic? 💕
