2020 reading plans

Hey Happy Bookworms!

How are you all? How’s 2020 going (I know it’s only been 16 days but that’s 384 hours so…….)
Today, I thought I’d just do a fun little post about my reading plans for the new year! I know you’re all probably bored to death with these kinda posts but…I’m interesting, ok?!

Le Plan:

2020 is going to be my backlist year.
Guys, I just can’t go on like this – my TBR is going to suffocate me, so it’s time to TACKLE it! *woo* thank you, thank you, I know, I’m so inspirational. How will I do this you ask? *gasps* Well, with hopes, dreams, & some fairy dust…obviously.
Nah but really:

  • Use the library to get through books that have been on my TBR for ages
  • Try & finish any series I’ve already started (*cough* HP *cough*)
  • Be picky with what I put on my TBR (I NEED to do this)
  • Only get books from netgalley that are on my TBR (or look really interesting)
  • Look through my TBR & maybe get rid of some of it (I hate doing this 🙈)
  • Maybe run some polls so you guys can tell me the best books to read (because if I enjoy it I’ll read it quicker (I’m trusting you guys!))
  • Finally….clearing out the crevices of my TBR

I saw this idea over on Weird Zeal & I thought it was the best idea! I tried to do a down the TBR hole but it didn’t go so well (I did 1/5) because the books were all ‘trendy’ books that I wanna read eventually but they’re all kinda the same & must be administered in moderation. So today we’re doing my bottoms of goodreads! You basically filter on a category & then pick the last one (you’ll see)

  • Date added & Publication year: Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Title: Zero Repeat Forever by Gabrielle S. Prendergast (I cannot remember this at all 😂)
  • Author: I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
  • Number of pages: We have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson (I didn’t count short/extra stories)
  • Number of ratings/average rating: Wonderland by Juno Dawson (this isn’t published yet so I’d normally discount it but it’s Juno Dawson so leave me alone)

Here’s a hoping I can tame my TBR by the end of this year!

What are your reading plans for 2020? Tell me some of your bottoms of goodreads!

how’s 2020 going too? i’m only getting to this post on february, so lais from the future can tell you that it’s been an *interesting* one, hahah.
i LOVE that 2020 is your backlist year. i definitely want to tackle more backlist titles this year too. in 2019 i prioritized so many new releases, and this definitely was not the smartest decision for my TBR.
i won’t be doing anything specific, but i do have a monthly goal to read at least one book from 2018 and later that it’s still unread.
i also need to finish the harry potter series!!!! it’s been YEARS, about 4 at this point, and i still haven’t finished it. but i’ll definitely try to make it happen in 2020. we can do it, el!
i’m wishing you all the luck on your 2020 reading goals!

Haha no it’s fine! I’m always so behind in posts! Although, actually I’m pretty on time right now (who knows how that happened but let’s roll with it!)

Same! Last year I got way too excited for new releases 😂 Also, I’m just not as excited for new releases this year? I don’t know wether it’s because I’m in a backlist mindset or they just don’t sound as good but I guess that helps my cause!
Wishing you all the luck too 💚💚

Firstly mines to get reading as I haven’t yet 🙈 I miss it so much. And I’d like to catch up on some of the books that I own whilst also reading at least some of the amazing sounding 2020 releases. And get on with some of the books that I’m desperate to read but don’t own – like The Diviners & Witch Hunter.
Your plans sound great. Good luck with them all. I’m sure you can get your TBR under control this year.

This sounds like a great plan – I’m also hoping to tackle my TBR this year! Funnily enough, I also found Zero Repeat Forever on my Goodreads and have no idea where it came from – I feel like it may have been on bookstagram?? I don’t know, it’s a mystery book 😂 Good luck with all your reading goals this year!

I have similar plans for my backlist. My Goodreads TBR isn’t that big, but some of the physical books I own have been on my shelf for years. Not to mention my NetGalley backlist, which contains books that I should have read and reviewed over 5 years ago! Ideally this is the year that I either read or unhaul all of my backlist books so that I could make sure my TBR is filled only with books I’m currently interested in.

Best of luck on your goals this year!

My physicals not too bad because I stack all my TBR books up in a pile so I can see when it’s getting too bad 😂
Hope you can crack on with those netgalley books! 😄

I would not be surprised if TBRs took over the world one day! Reading backlist books is a brilliant idea because so many awesome books have already been published?? YOU NEED TO FINISH HP!!!! Good luck clearing out your TBR and let’s hope that’s enough to save the world

In 2020, I just want to read for me and also keep on top of arcs!! Loved reading this! 💛

Omg yes I’m ready to be the TBR conquerer ✊
I knowwwww but HP is just so BIG that I never want to start it 😂

Hope you manage to do that! Reading for you is always important, I can admit that sometimes I get too caught up with reading to deadlines & that’s never good 💕💕

      Thank you!
I’m excited to see what I am the messenger’s about since I haven’t read something like it before.
I TBRed we have always lived in the castle just after Halloween & I think it would be so perfect for October so hopefully I don’t miss my chance this year! 😉

Sounds like a plan! My reading plans are always really vague, but they always involve plans to read a bunch of really old books that I will get halfway through and then drop for the next five years. I wish you better fortune with your plans than I am granted 😉 (no I don’t know why I slipped into high fantasy speak)

YES best of luck with your 2020 plans. I’m always trying to focus on my backlist but there are some series I have seriously been meaning to read for ages 😂 and I am focusing on finishing series I’ve already started too!!
It is a great idea for your goodreads shelves. I’ve read I am the Messenger and I loved it!! It was slow in the way The Book Thief was but the writing was wonderful. Plus the ending demand to be talked about 😂
I hope you have a great reading year!! 💛

I think I added I am the messenger because of you! 😂
So if it’s bad – I’m blaming you!
I really hope I can narrow my TBR down in 2020 because there are so many great books on it that are yet to be discovered! Hope you have a great reading (and general) year too! 💕

I’m following similar rules (hopefully) in 2020, so that I can defeat some of my backlist as well!! I also need to finish Harry Potter: I just finished the fourth one, so I need to start the 5th, but it’s . . . huge. 🙊 I’m SCAREDDD.

Best of luck to both of us 😂😂 new books just keep coming out, it’s not fair!!

I need to start the 4th one! I read the 1st, 2nd & 3rd and they’re all little books but the 4th one’s the first BIG one so I’m even further behind than you! 😭
I knowwww, although actually, I don’t have as many anticipated 2020 books as I did 2019 (is the universe helping me?! Not really 😂)
      Good luck! 💕
