Recreating Book Covers (Ft. Ash @ Starlight Strands)

Hey Happy Bookworms!

I’ve got a really fun post today that I’ve been looking forward to for ages!

So I saw May @ my 1st chapter recreate the lunar chronicles digitally & I LOVED the idea! I immediately wanted to try it out but in watercolour & then I thought what would make this 100 times better? Collabing with Ash of course!

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

I absolutely love the art style of descendant of the crane & before quarantine came in I was doing a textiles project on set design for Mulan so this totally reminded me of that which I unfortunately can’t do anymore 😦
Compared to the original, my colours are a little washed out but I love how it turned out! I definitely had a lot of fun drawing in all the lily pads and water lilies πŸ˜„

The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton

Throwing it back to childhood! I loved doing all the colours on this one although I was in two minds about fine lining the leaves or not, I went back & forth but in the end I just left in? Still not sure πŸ˜…
This one was a lot harder to reproduce & I had to make some changes like making the people just silhouettes (I’m not trynna be here for days drawing tiny people) and getting rid of the white/magical (fairy lights maybe?) altogether because just no. That would have been so hard to do smh

So, how do you think I did? πŸ˜‚ Some elements definitely went better than others but all in all I think they turned out decent πŸ™‚

Make sure to head over to Ash’s post to see her beautiful recreations of the Henna wars & Brown girl dreaming (they are SO good!)

These are awesome!! I could never draw like that – part of the reason why I love the adult colouring books that are out now πŸ˜… Descendant Of The Crane has such a beautiful cover and you recreated it so wonderfully!! I love the other one too, the tree and colours are fantastic

Yes descendant of the crane is just πŸ‘Œ I’m obsessed with that cover πŸ˜…
I haven’t done any colouring in ages but it might actually be chill – maybe I’ll print off some sheets from the internet & see if I like it πŸ˜‚
      Thank you so much! πŸ’ž

Oh my GOSH! first of all: AMAZING! My gosh I absolutely loved them so much, the second one definitely was a blast from the past! I have to admit the first one was my favourite but I generally preferred the first book cover so it makes sense πŸ˜‚ Also I’m definitely interested in doing this with my favourite books so I can stick them in my room πŸ™‚ And your photos were so aesthetic! πŸ’–

Ah same here! One day I’m re-reading (they’re probably going to seem really bad now but they were so magical before) πŸ˜‚ It really is! Thanks so much for the vote of confidence, for sure! Do you have anywhere you could pin them up or hang them somewhere?! They’re too beautiful to be hidden away!

Ah these are so gorgeous! I love watercolours so much but I’m not the best at using them, I prefer using pencils and doing things either in grey scale with the different pencil types or a biro/ink pen xD Not that I’ve drawn anything in a hot minute haha

School has definitely forced me to try a lot more mediums recently but watercolours are just something I love (I just find them quite therapeutic?)
I admire your love of pencils & ink though – they really intimidate me! πŸ’ž
